Where is the main shutoff in a York rowhouse?
Usually in the basement, on the wall nearest the street, close to where the meter sits. In older city houses it can be behind stored items or under a stair, which is exactly where nobody wants to be searching at two in the morning. Do shared walls in a rowhouse affect a plumbing repair?
Sometimes, and it is worth raising early. Supply and drain lines occasionally run in or beside a shared wall, and access on one side may be easier than the other. Nothing about that prevents a repair, but it does change how the work is planned and whether a neighbor needs to know it is happening.
